J-STAR No. 5 is a series of Japan-focused lower-middle-market control investment vehicles. It targets non-distressed special situations, including business succession, management buyouts, carve-outs and shareholder exits, with a focus on small to mid-cap companies that have established brands, differentiated business models or strong positions in market niches.

Established in 2006, J-STAR is a Japanese private equity firm focused on addressing management issues at small and medium-sized companies. The firm selects transaction structures to fit each situation and works with portfolio-company management teams to formulate and implement business strategies.
